Are you remodeling a home in the East Brunswick area? One of the most important aspects of managing a large project — like a bathroom renovation — is choosing your new furniture. From fixtures to handles and knobs to faucets and more, there are plenty of decisions to be made. For bathrooms, this also includes finding the perfect vanity for the space. You’re not in this alone, though! We have some helpful tips for finding the right bathroom vanity for your space, no matter your budget.

Vanity Sizing

No, we don’t mean the kind you’ll find in the jeans section at the mall. Your vanity needs to fit your space, plain and simple. That includes measuring the dimensions of the space that the base of the vanity will go in as well as the swing of any doors or cabinets. You don’t want to have a vanity that technically fits into the space only to find out that you can’t use half of the storage space due to the toilet getting in the way.

Measure the depth (from you to the wall) and the width (left and right) of the area in your bathroom you want the vanity to go. If you’re getting a tall closet attachment, like the one from CNC Cabinetry pictured above, you’ll need two height measurements. The sink height can vary a little, though for many people it doesn’t make too much of a difference. If you have a preference, it might be easier to compare a currently existing vanity and add or subtract inches to figure out your ideal height.

Remember that the plumbing will also need to fit within the backing of the vanity, so if you’ll need something special (like a right- or left-aligned sink) it’s a good idea to make note of that in your measurements. Many vanity manufacturers will offer these options to fit any needs you could have with your space.

Materials

This isn’t necessarily just the materials the base of the vanity is made of. If you have strong preferences on the countertop, hinges or fixtures, make sure you know in advance what you’re looking for. Don’t always assume that the marble countertop is best for your lifestyle — or that it’s completely out of your price range. Beautiful, high quality materials are much more accessible that you might think.
