Planning a bathroom remodel in the New Jersey area? Chances are you’re in the market for a replacement for that old shower. You know the one. The builders probably put a full bathtub/shower kit in with a single piece surround and then constructed your house around it. The floor is a little warped and doesn’t drain like it used to. (Side note: do you think mosquitos can start to breed there after a few days?) It’s an awful shade of pink. Sure, those things will probably last through the apocalypse, but that’s only because they can be darn hard to rip out.
But if you’ve managed to remove one, the shower world is suddenly wide open to you. Maybe you’ve been dreaming of knocking down a wall. Or installing something more modern-looking. While you may not be able to turn the bathroom into a full-service spa, you can definitely improve on what came before. But how do you choose?
Where Can a Shower Fit, Realistically?
If you have an alcove specifically built into your bathroom, the answer is pretty obvious unless you’d like to pull out a sledgehammer. But not all bathrooms are built the same. Maybe there’s a corner that could fit a space-saving corner shower like the one above. Would a pedestal sink open up space? How about removing some towel racks or replacing standing shelves with floating ones? Plumbing locations can make space feel limited, but it doesn’t have to dictate absolutely everything.
Know Your Shower Needs
For some, it’s better water pressure. For others, it’s hotter water. One of the biggest game-changers is having a solid shower seat, though. From shaving legs to making sure grandpa doesn’t take a tumble, most people love how showers like the one above increase the utility of the space.
Have a Design in Mind
It’s easy to get caught up in the price of a remodel so much that you lose sight of the actual purpose of it. At the end of the day, you want to have a space that you love. Make sure that you’re not losing all sight of your design aesthetic throughout the process. If you love the pure white look, there are plenty of options out there. If a darker look calls to you, get creative with the tiling and opt for a nice transparent door to show it off.
